Training Fees

Fees for your horse when in training

Our training fees are currently £288.62 per week, which equates to £41.23 (+VAT) per day. This figure includes all farrier costs, gallop fees and routine in-house veterinary treatment.

We also have a reduced training fee to cover periods when a horse comes out of training (e.g. through an extended period of injury, or when given a holiday). This is set at approximately half of the normal training fee.

Fees for your horse associated with racing

The 'inclusive' nature of our training fees means that frequently the only addition on your bill relates to expenses incurred on a race day. The main one is transport fees. Our horse transport is provided by a locally based-operator. This per mile cost goes up for each additional horse carried, but naturally with more horses on the same journey the cost associated with each individual horse is reduced.

A further cost is staff expenses related to taking a horse racing. These are billed as overtime for the period spent away from the yard, outside of the normal working day, which is set out by The Jockey Club. They also set the additional costs for racing that involve an overnight stay, Sunday racing and trips abroad.

Syndicate Ownership

Syndicate ownership is an ideal way to enjoy the excitement of racehorse ownership at a fraction of the cost. A variety of syndication options exist with the ownership of a racehorse split into anything from 5 to 250+ shares. Naturally the greater the number of people involved in a syndicate the lower the costs are for an individual. The precise working of an individual syndicate will vary in accordance with their own rules but most of them will offer opportunities to enjoy a day at the races when your horse runs and to visit the stable where the horse is trained. The larger syndicates will usually offer regular newsletters to update members and an information phone line. The smaller syndicates will usually provide this information through a syndicate manager.

Here at James Given Racing we train horses for a number of different syndicates. As mentioned above these vary considerably in size and make up. A brief description of each follows along with web site addresses.

We are training a three year old colt, Dandino for Elite Racing Club. He is sired by Dansili and is out of Generous Diana, a triple winner and placed five times over 7-12f. We have enjoyed huge success with Dandino this year, he is a four times winner with one of those wins being at Royal Ascot.
